Broadband

Did you know?

Brookhaven was home to the first Trans-Atlantic radio broadcast, from Rocky Point to Paris, France.

Energy Utilities

  • National Grid Gas
  • PSEG Long Island Electric

The Town of Brookhaven has been making effective use of available natural resources to maintain and enhance that quality of life.  Over 22,000 homes and business on Long Island derive all or part of their electricity from the sun.  The cost of solar panels has been dropping steadily over time between rebates from PSEG and federal and state tax credits.

There are several solar farms in Brookhaven.  The Long Island Solar Farm (LISF) is located on the Brookhaven National Laboratory site and is currently the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in the Eastern United States.  It is generating enough renewable energy to power approximately 4,500 homes and is helping New York State meet its clean energy and carbon reduction goals.

Brookhaven Town is transitioning the Yaphank landfill into an energy park which will have solar arrays, fuel cells and locally brewed methane.  When complete, the facility could power more than 11,000 homes.

View electricity data for year:
Beginning in 2012 the U.S. Energy Information Agency reduced the reporting requirements for “small utilities”. These utilities are not required to submit residential, commercial and industrial breakouts. They just supply summary information from all sectors.
Natural gas prices are only available at the state level. Prices are average prices for the reporting period. EIA does not maintain data on the service territory of natural gas utilities.
