Brookhaven serves as a cultural center for Long Island by showcasing a broad variety of performing arts for a wide-ranging audience at affordable prices.


Several of the finest regional performances can be found in many live theaters in Brookhaven.  Theatre Three has occupied Athena Hall, a 160 year-old historic building,that is dedicated not only to putting on shows but also a dramatic academy.  The Gateway Playhouse is the oldest professional theater on Long Island and some legendary actors have performed there like Robert Duvall.  Staller Center for the Arts, offers a wide variety of world class performances that includes live music, dance, theatre and fine art exhibitions.


The Pennysaver Amphitheater at Bald Hill, which is one of Long Island's highest elevations and formerly known as the Brookhaven Amphitheater, is an outdoor concert venue that has seating for 3,000 and a vast lawn seating for over 6,500 where concerts have been held for almost 50 years!  The amphitheater offers a wide variety of events for the entire family including fairs, festivals, care shows and more.  Some huge names have performed at the amphitheater including Blondie, Cheap Trick, James Brown, B.B. King and many more.  


Brookhaven's museums offer unique collections, objects and memorabilia that will delight visitors in their array of subject matter and historical significance of items.


The Greater Port Jefferson-Northern Brookhaven Arts Council supports artistic activity in the Northern Brookhaven area embracing music, film and visual arts, as well as, educational and cultural endeavors as they relate to the arts.

The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council supports local artists who live and work in Brookhaven and enhance the culture of the community.  There are  monthly gallery exhibits and workshops for adults and children.

Programs for Children & Family

On the Mend with Music Program for pediatric patients at Stony Brook Hospital and Give the Gift of Music Program distributes musical instruments to children in need.

Events and Festivals

The Pennysaver Amphitheater hosts may multi-art festivals such as Beatstock, Freedom Fest and Vets Rock, bringing popular contemporary names to Long Island.  The Annual Charles Dickens Festival transforms the streets in the village of Port Jefferson to an era where characters roam the streets.  There also ice skating, choirs and Nutcracker Performances.
